The paper installed from the ceiling to the floor has a list of words that are extracted from the major news regarding the important events happened in South Korea for the last 2-3 years. Words are jargons which are difficult to understand at a glance. They are divided into paragraphs by event according to the excerpted news. On each word, a few letters are marked, and they construct various interjections. The audience could read the interjections hidden in words, along with a list of words.
Sometimes the media intentionally use jargons and technical terms that are difficult to understand for the general public in order to drive particular news toward a particular direction. Moreover, they label sensitive issues as a part of the expert area and pass it on to the experts. By doing that, they avoid verifying accurate facts. The use of jargons masquerades as professional and detailed explanations but makes people harder to understand facts. The work started from the interest in this phenomena.
천장에서 바닥까지 길게 설치된 작업에는 날짜와 함께 최근 2-3년간 한국에서 발생했던 주요 뉴스에서 발췌한 단어 목록이 쓰여있다. 단어들은 한눈에 이해하기 힘든 전문 용어 들로, 발췌한 뉴스에 따라 사건별로 단락으로 나누어져 있다. 각 단어들에는 단어를 이루는 철자 중 감탄사들이 발췌되어 표시되어 있다. 관객은 단어들의 목록과 함께, 단어들 안에 숨어있는 감탄사들을 읽어볼 수 있다.
때로 미디어는 특정사건을 의도적인 방향으로 전달하기 위해 일반인이 이해하기 어려운 전문용어를 사용하고, 민감한 정보를 전문가 영역으로 규정하고 전문가에게 넘김으로서 정확한 사실을 규명을 미룬다. 전문적 용어의 나열은 전문적이고 상세한 설명을 가장하되, 사실을 더욱 이해하기 어렵게 만든다. 작업은 이러한 현상에 대한 관심에서 시작되었다.
